Linus Sebastian thinks Valve will have a hard time finding buyers if the device is priced at around $600–$700.
Popular tech creator Linus Sebastian (Linus Tech Tips) said Valve gave a lukewarm response when he suggested setting the new Steam Machine’s price at $500.
When I said I was disappointed they weren’t taking a console-style approach, they asked, “What do you mean by a console price?” I replied, “$500.” The room fell silent, and the energy was… not great.
Sebastian believes that if the Steam Machine is priced above $600–$700, Valve will have little rationale to defend that cost — especially against the much more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro.
The Steam Machine is expected to launch in 2026 and, according to Valve, will be “six times more powerful” than the Steam Deck.
It’s likely Valve will disclose the price only shortly before sales begin — much the same way Microsoft handled the Xbox ROG Ally X.
