US Video Game Market Delivers Concerning News for Microsoft Ecosystem
According to Statista data in the US, the Xbox One currently outperforms the entire Xbox Series generation in popularity, while the PS5 and even the PS4 significantly outpace Microsoft consoles against the backdrop of falling company revenue from hardware sales.
Statista reports that the Xbox One now gathers more active players in the US than the Xbox Series X and Series S combined. The older console accounts for 23% of active users, whereas the entire Xbox Series family holds 21%.
The comparison with competitors looks even more striking. The PS5 remains the leader of the American market with 46%, and the PS4 retains 27% of active players. Sony’s older console therefore attracts more users than Microsoft’s entire current generation.

Slow player adoption of the new generation also reflects on the company’s financial results. During the previous fiscal year, Microsoft recorded a noticeable drop in revenue from console sales. Component cost increases and inflation also fail to help convince players to transition to new platforms.
