A widespread outage has knocked the PlayStation Network (PSN) offline, paralyzing essential digital features including account control, the PlayStation Store, and all online multiplayer infrastructure. Gamers are currently restricted entirely to offline capabilities. The disruption has persisted for upwards of six hours, heavily impacting major events—most notably, the highly anticipated open beta debut for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, which was scheduled to launch today.
Because of the server blackout, eager participants are temporarily locked out of the console-exclusive fighting game. “We are aware that numerous PlayStation enthusiasts are encountering authentication and connectivity hurdles,” the official Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls X account announced earlier today. “Our engineering division is actively dissecting the dilemma to pinpoint the root cause. We will publish further advisories the moment new information materializes.”
Unfortunately for developer Arc System Works—which just dropped the bombshell news that Phoenix Cyclops will serve as the premier DLC fighter for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls—the situation rests entirely outside their jurisdiction. According to the official PSN status portal, widespread anomalies are affecting multiple sectors:
- Account Management
- Gaming and Social Features
- PlayStation Video
- PlayStation Store
- PlayStation Direct
While network blackouts are invariably frustrating, this particular incident arrives at a remarkably precarious time. Earlier this month, PlayStation confirmed that it will permanently halt physical disc manufacturing for new titles by January 2028. Historically, physical media has served as a reliable safety net during outages, allowing players to enjoy offline data stored directly on the disc. Conversely, many modern digital releases—even single-player experiences—mandate continuous online authentication, rendering them completely unplayable when server infrastructure collapses. This aggressive digital transition reinforces growing concerns that the current console generation has become a race to the bottom.
Game Informer will continue to provide updates as the network situation evolves.
