Upcoming Ghost of Tsushima Anime Based on Game’s Multiplayer Mode
Crunchyroll has unveiled a fresh look at the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima anime adaptation, currently slated for a 2027 debut. While the latest teaser offers only a glimpse into the production through character concept art, the aesthetic is undeniably striking, showcasing three warriors outfitted in intricate, skull-adorned battle regalia.

Official details regarding the narrative remain limited, but the teaser’s description describes the plot as follows: “Ghost of Tsushima Legends follows one of the last remaining samurai as he defends his homeland of Tsushima against the Mongol Empire.” It is important to note, however, that this series is not a direct retelling of Jin Sakai’s journey seen in the main game.

The project draws its inspiration specifically from Ghost of Tsushima: Legends—the game’s supernatural multiplayer expansion that later saw a standalone release. Unlike the core story, Legends leans heavily into Japanese folklore, pitting players against otherworldly threats. The concept art features the Hunter, Ronin, and Assassin classes, with the show’s lead likely filling the Samurai role.

“The rich, immersive world of Ghost of Tsushima and the fantastical elements of the Legends mode provide a perfect foundation for this project,” noted Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, during the initial announcement.

Behind the camera, the series is in capable hands. Studio Kamikaze Douga—renowned for their work on Star Wars: Visions—will produce the project, with Takanobu Mizuno serving as director. The creative roster is bolstered by legendary writer Gen Urobuchi (known for Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero), who is overseeing script composition alongside Satoshi Maejima. Rounding out the team is character designer Takashi Okazaki, celebrated for his iconic work on Afro Samurai.

First revealed in early 2025, this series will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll. The franchise has maintained steady momentum since the original title launched in 2020, followed by the acclaimed sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, which arrived in 2025.
