Ubisoft Virtually Confirms Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Remake via New Update

Edward Kenway in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Remake concept

While Ubisoft has yet to officially announce a modern reimagining of 2013’s seafaring masterpiece, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the company is finding it increasingly difficult to suppress the rising tide of speculation. Between leaked conceptual art and various credible insider reports, the project has long felt like an open secret. Now, Ubisoft has essentially confirmed the rumors with a direct, nautical-themed teaser.

In a recent franchise-wide update, Jean Guesdon—the newly appointed Head of Content and original creative director for Black Flag—alluded to the long-rumored remake. Addressing the fans, Guesdon invoked the series’ iconic mantra before pivoting to some very specific wordplay.

“Speculation surrounding Assassin’s Creed is nothing new, but it bears repeating: ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted,'” Guesdon wrote. “However, in this instance, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon.” 🦜

The inclusion of a parrot emoji at the end of the statement leaves little room for doubt. It is a blatant nod to the Golden Age of Piracy and Edward Kenway’s Caribbean adventures. Given the direct nature of this tease, it’s highly probable that a formal reveal is closer than we think.
