TuneCore Promotes Andreea Gleeson to CEO

The indie distributor TuneCore has named co-head and chief revenue officer Andreea Gleeson its new CEO, the Brooklyn-based company announced today (Aug 25).

Gleeson was named co-head of the company last September alongside chief operating officer Matt Barrington following the departure of Scott Ackerman, TuneCore’s former CEO in April 2020. Barrington will continue as chief operating officer and “expand his operational purview,” according to the company.

Gleeson spearheaded TuneCore’s international expansion — the company launched in Brazil, Russia, and India in 2020 and throughout Latin America earlier this year — and artist education and support efforts for the 1 million artists that use its services over the past year. The distributor launched TuneCore Rewards which offers discounts for artists who watch its educational “Master Class” videos, and TuneCore Certified, which offers digital plaques to artists based on how many streaming milestones they hit. She also worked closely on strategic partnerships with Facebook, YouTube, and Spotify.

Gleeson joined TuneCore in 2015 as its head of marketing and served as its chief marketing officer before being named chief revenue officer last year. TuneCore is owned by Paris-based label and distributor Believe.

“When Andreea joined TuneCore five years ago, she brought with her a fresh perspective and proceeded to challenge music industry norms while continuing to innovate and build the company,” Believe CEO Denis Ladegaillerie said in a statement. “This promotion recognizes her leadership skills, expertise across product, technology, and marketing, as well as her keen understanding of artist and label needs during a period of accelerated growth in the independent music market. Andreea’s elevation to CEO also underscores Believe’s commitment to gender parity and empowering female leaders. I’m thrilled that she will lead TuneCore, as we shape the future of music around the world to best serve and develop independent artists.”

“I’m inspired daily by the talented artists and industry-leading team who make TuneCore the most innovative and forward-thinking independent digital music distributor in the world.” Gleeson added. “I truly believe in our mission – in step with our parent company Believe – to serve artists at every stage of development and will continue to build TuneCore to be the destination where artists can start, grow and manage their careers, while working to level the playing field for all independent artists.”
