Travis Kelce Responds to Taylor Swift’s Innuendo-Laced “Life of a Showgirl” — a Song About Him

Travis Kelce is clearly pleased with the release of Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl — especially the playful, double-entendre track “Wood,” which nods broadly to his personal life.

On the latest episode of his podcast New Heights with brother Jason Kelce, posted Wednesday (Oct. 8), the Kansas City Chiefs tight end weighed in on the song’s flirtatious lyrics and the buzz they’ve created.

“It’s a great song,” Travis said, coyly acknowledging the obvious innuendo. He added that he appreciates any track in which Swift references him — even indirectly.

Jason chimed in, pointing out that the song’s imagery clearly riffs on a specific anatomical metaphor, which made the brothers laugh and riff on comparisons. Jason quipped that while Travis’s stature might be likened to a towering redwood, his own was more playfully described as an ornamental Japanese maple — a line that set both siblings off in laughter.

Beyond the jokes, the Kelce brothers praised The Life of a Showgirl throughout the episode. Jason singled out tracks such as “Opalite,” “Eldest Daughter,” and “Cancelled!” among his favorites, in addition to “Wood.”

Released Oct. 3, The Life of a Showgirl is tracking toward becoming one of Swift’s most commercially successful albums. Early reports indicate massive first-week sales and record-breaking momentum for the project.

The album’s launch included several collectible variants and a digital edition that pairs each song with Swift’s own voice memos explaining its inspiration. Speaking about “Wood,” Swift described it as essentially a sentimental love song that uses superstitions — like the idea of knocking on wood — as a narrative device.
