Beyoncé and Solange Sang to Their Mother Before Her Cancer Surgery
Just before she was taken into surgery to have a tumor removed from her left breast, Tina Knowles was comforted by a private, gospel-tinged performance from her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange.
Speaking with People on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the 27th Annual Angel Ball in New York City, Knowles recounted how her daughters lifted her spirits right before the procedure.
The sisters sang a hymn titled “Walk With Me,” a song Knowles said she “absolutely loves.” Their presence and that quiet moment of music helped steady her as she headed into the operating room.
Beyoncé and Solange also brightened the mood by showing their mother a viral TikTok in which creator Jools Lebron cheekily reminds viewers to be “very demure, very mindful.” Knowles said the clip had her laughing as she was wheeled in, and that she felt blessed and reassured — a feeling that proved justified.
Knowles, co-founder of Cécred, has been candid about her cancer journey in interviews and in her April memoir, Matriarch. In the book she reflects on how closely her daughters supported her during the ordeal, writing that “my girls became my team.”
She has also urged women not to delay screening. As Knowles told People when the book was released, “You cannot play around with that. I think as women, sometimes we get so busy… but you must go get your test. If I had not gotten my test early, I shudder to think what could have happened.”
