Thimbleweed Park 2 Announced, Launching In 2028

Originally released in 2017, Thimbleweed Park served as a triumphant homage to the golden era of LucasArts point-and-click adventures. Spearheaded by industry veterans Gary Winnick and Ron Gilbert—the visionary co-creators of Maniac Mansion, with Gilbert also giving life to the legendary Monkey Island franchise—the game captured the hearts of retro enthusiasts worldwide. Now, nearly a decade later, the development team at Terrible Toybox has officially pulled back the curtain on an eagerly anticipated sequel.

Thimbleweed Park 2 reunites players with Agents Ray and Reyes as they step into a baffling new murder mystery centered around the grand Edmund Mansion. True to classic whodunit fashion, every eccentric resident living within the estate serves as a potential suspect, leaving players to interrogate each individual and untangle the web of clues to unmask the real perpetrator. Familiar faces from the original outing, including Delores, Franklin Edmund, and the chaotic Ransome the Clown, are all set to make their return. At present, Terrible Toybox has yet to debut a cinematic or gameplay trailer.

Describing the project, the official Steam page notes, “Not really a sequel. Not really a prequel. It’s more Thimbleweed Park and just as weird. And just like last time, in a town like Thimbleweed Park, a dead body is the least of your problems.”

The first installment debuted on March 30, 2017, following a heavily backed Kickstarter campaign. It was met with widespread critical acclaim, earning an 8.5 out of 10 from former Game Informer editor Elise Favis. In her review, Favis praised the title, stating, “Thimbleweed Park revels in its humor, and succeeds in its efforts toward better puzzle design. The narrative takes some twists and turns that didn’t always hit home with me, but I enjoyed the whimsical journey nonetheless. With its stellar characters and smart puzzles, Thimbleweed Park is a joy to play from beginning to end.”
