Players have long requested Steam releases for Genshin Impact and Fortnite.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney recently proposed a concept called Team Open. He envisions Unreal Engine developers challenging Roblox by linking the social systems and economies of various games.
Sweeney told PC Gamer that Valve misses growth opportunities by failing to reach a wider audience through Steam.
He renewed his criticism of Valve’s commission policies. Sweeney pointed to Microsoft, Google, and Epic Games as examples of companies that lowered fees and improved conditions for developers.
Sweeney believes Valve could adopt the Team Open concept to enter the mobile market and reach new users.
The Epic Games executive stated that the company has pitched the concept periodically. Interest in the idea has recently risen above previous levels due to industry challenges, although Sweeney did not name any interested parties.
