The final registration tallies for Evo 2026 have been unveiled. Although thousands of competitors have locked in their spots for major brackets like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8, the event is seeing a noticeable downturn in participation compared to the previous year’s figures.
Evo has long served as the premier stage for the global fighting game community, drawing massive crowds to Las Vegas annually. Beyond the competition, it acts as a critical venue for publishers—such as Capcom and Bandai Namco—to showcase upcoming content and character reveals. Consequently, this shift in turnout has sparked genuine industry concern.
Data released on June 12 shows that Street Fighter 6 maintained the highest participant count with 2,414 entrants. However, that figure marks a steep decline from the 4,228 competitors who signed up for the game at Evo 2025. Similar downward trends are reflected across other marquee titles, including Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Conversely, Rivals of Aether 2 bucked the trend, managing to secure higher registration numbers than the year prior.

While event organizers have not explicitly addressed the dip, the community has been vocal across platforms like Bluesky, X, and Reddit. Speculation regarding the cause is widespread. The schedule shift—moving the event from August to an earlier date in June—is a primary point of discussion, compounded by the growing prevalence of localized “Evo” events, such as Evo Japan in May and the upcoming Evo France in October.
Macro-level factors are likely contributing to the trend as well. The acquisition of Evo by the Saudi-backed company RTS remains a point of contention for some fans. Additionally, international travelers may be deterred by current geopolitical tensions or travel concerns, while domestic participants face the economic realities of budgeting for a trip to Las Vegas. Taken together, these barriers offer a clearer picture of why registration figures have softened this year.

Despite the current drop in entrants, the ultimate measure of the event’s health will be reflected in viewership numbers when the stream goes live later this month. Evo 2026 is scheduled to run from June 26 to June 28.
