The Witcher 3 Modders Restore Cut Mechanic for Geralt’s Memories

Not all ideas made it into the release version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but fans are trying to fix that.

During the development of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED cut more than just narrative ideas. Various mechanics were also scrapped. However, traces remained in the game files, allowing players to gradually bring back old concepts or rebuild them using notes.

As it turned out, at a certain stage the creators of The Witcher 3 planned to add a system that would let players re-watch the illustrated story scenes typically played during loading screens.

Modder glassfish777 recently shared that this unreleased feature was first discovered several years ago. At the time, however, it triggered a critical bug that developers could not fix.

Over the past years, new modding tools have emerged that helped resolve those difficulties and polish the feature to a release standard. After installing the mod, players will find an “Events” button inside the glossary menu, where video clips can be viewed.

The “Restored Content – Storybook” modification for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available for free through Nexus Mods.
