The Witcher 3 Compared to The Blood of Dawnwalker in Graphics Analysis

Comment Views: 1

In many PC scenes, The Witcher 3—released 11 years ago—looks just as good as The Blood of Dawnwalker, despite the newer game using modern Unreal Engine 5 technology.

System requirements for games are growing faster than graphical quality. This is especially noticeable when comparing the details and physics of The Witcher 3 and the new release from Rebel Wolves.

Over the past 11 years, hardware requirements have increased significantly, largely due to the widespread use of ray tracing. The Blood of Dawnwalker runs on Unreal Engine 5, where lighting is handled by the Lumen system, which uses real-time global illumination technology.

As a result, The Witcher 3, built on the proprietary REDengine, does not fall short of the new game in many scenes. A similar situation recently occurred with Crimson Desert, which also lagged behind The Witcher 3 in certain visual scenes due to ray tracing optimization issues.

This once again demonstrates how well CD Projekt RED’s action RPG has aged. On September 29, the game will receive a free remaster, after which comparisons with modern AAA projects will become even more interesting.
