The Walking Dead: Dead City Creators Have Ideas for Season 4

AMC has not yet renewed the series, but the creators are already discussing the continuation of Maggie and Negan’s story.

Lauren Cohan has shared her thoughts on the prospects of a fourth season for The Walking Dead: Dead City. As the star playing Maggie alongside Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, she also serves as an executive producer on the series, directly participating in discussions about its future development. The actress believes that after 15 years of working on the franchise, the creators are still capable of surprising viewers:

Dead City has allowed for a deeper exploration of Maggie and a showcase of new sides to her relationship with Negan. According to Cohan, the continued development of familiar characters opens up additional opportunities for the writers:

A decision on the future of Dead City will likely be made after the current season concludes. If the series is renewed, it could remain the only ongoing spin-off of The Walking Dead after Daryl Dixon concludes with its fourth season in 2027.

New episodes are currently receiving mixed, though sparse, reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the third season has earned a 78% approval rating from critics and 51% from audiences. By comparison, the second season holds 56% and 42% respectively, while the first season sits at 100% and 51%.

However, the sample size on the review aggregator is too small to draw definitive conclusions, as each season has been rated by only about six professional reviewers and a few dozen users. On Metacritic, ratings for the second and third seasons have not been established for the same reason. The average user rating for third-season episodes on IMDb is roughly 7.5 out of 10, compared to 7.6 for the first season and 7.1 for the second. At the very least, these figures do not indicate a decline in the reception of the series compared to previous seasons, though only two out of eight episodes have aired so far.
