The Rings of Power Season 3 Trailer Shows Middle-earth at War
The trailer for season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power shows war returning to Middle-earth. Prime Video’s fantasy series comes back to streaming on Nov. 11. Sauron’s schemes finally pay off, and the free peoples of the world must choose between bending the knee and trying to topple the Dark Lord.
The first two seasons explored Middle-earth’s Second Age, thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Sauron’s treachery led the elven smith Celebrimbor to forge the Rings of Power. Neither the elves, the dwarves nor the humans of mighty Numenor know that the Dark Lord is secretly forging his own One Ring, which will rule over all the others.
What to expect from season 3
The series has already given a glimpse of Sauron’s power in a teaser of the Naznagôl. The Naznagôl are the show’s original take on the Nazgûl from The Lord of the Rings. They are lords of men corrupted by Sauron’s influence, shown as an early stage before they fully turn into Ringwraiths.
Eregion falls, and the remaining strongholds of freedom must unite against the Dark Lord and his armies. Those strongholds are Numenor, Khazad-dûm, and the elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell.

Showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay return for season 3. Director Charlotte Brändström joins them. The episodes arrive on Prime Video in three batches:

- Nov. 11: the first four episodes
- Nov. 18: episodes 5 and 6
- Nov. 25: the final two episodes

The trailer packs in plenty of action and high-stakes drama, including a clash with a Balrog. The Rings of Power is surely not the most faithful adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythos. Even so, it has gathered a loyal legion of fans and has been a commercial success for Prime Video. The series is planned to run for five seasons.
