«The Obsession» to Compete in the Golden Globe Musical or Comedy Category
Focus Features has officially announced its intention to campaign Currie Barker’s horror film Obsession for “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” at the 2027 Golden Globe Awards.
This move places the film alongside a long lineage of controversial genre-bending Golden Globe contenders, including Ridley Scott’s The Martian, Jordan Peele’s Get Out, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things.
Obsession centers on Bair (Michael Johnston), an introverted music store clerk who uses a mystical wand in a desperate bid to win the heart of his coworker, Nikki (Indi Navarrette). The plan spirals out of control when she develops a dangerous fixation on him. The film has become a massive global box-office phenomenon, raking in over $500 million against a modest $750,000 budget.
The 84th Golden Globe Awards ceremony is scheduled for January 10, 2027, with the official list of nominees to be unveiled on December 7.
