The thriller The Housemaid is set to make the leap from the silver screen to the stage. This announcement comes directly from Lionsgate, the studio responsible for the film’s distribution.
The production will be spearheaded by the creative teams behind the theatrical adaptations of Paranormal Activity and The Notebook. At this time, specific details regarding the premiere date, casting, and other production elements remain under wraps.
Based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, The Housemaid follows Millie (portrayed by Sydney Sweeney), who secures a position working for the affluent Winchester family. Before long, the dark, concealed secrets of the household begin to unravel.
The film also features performances by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, with Paul Feig (known for Bridesmaids and A Simple Favor) in the director’s chair. The movie achieved significant commercial success, grossing approximately $400 million globally, including 1.3 billion rubles from Russian audiences.
In addition to this stage production, Lionsgate officially greenlit a film sequel this spring. Scheduled for a December 2027 release, the follow-up will see Sydney Sweeney joined by Kirsten Dunst.
