The Last of Us Season 3 Casts Abby and Lev Game Actors in Different Roles

The Last of Us season 3 has added more actors to its cast in celebration of The Last of Us Day. John Goodman joins the production alongside Ian Alexander and Laura Bailey, who will appear next season as brand-new characters.

Who was cast in The Last of Us Season 3?

Naughty Dog celebrates Sept. 26 as The Last of Us Day because that date marks the Cordyceps outbreak in-universe. Franchise news typically arrives on this day. HBO used the occasion to announce that John Goodman, Ian Alexander, and Laura Bailey joined The Last of Us season 3. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann isn’t involved in making the third season.

Laura Bailey and Ian Alexander both starred in The Last of Us Part 2, portraying Abby and Lev respectively. While the television adaptation often casts video game actors in different roles, such as Troy Baker, Bailey previously had a small cameo in the season 1 finale as a surgeon trying to operate on Ellie.

The show gives Bailey and Alexander larger roles as original characters created for the adaptation. Bailey plays Elizabeth, described in a press release as one of the Seraphites leaders. John Goodman and Ian Alexander portray Joey and Paco, a duo known as the Heroes of the Highway. The exact number of episodes featuring Goodman, Bailey, and Alexander remains unknown.

The Last of Us season 3 will air on HBO in 2027. Naughty Dog is saving its The Last of Us Day announcements for Sept. 28, while the studio’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, currently lacks a release window.
