The Best Boss Fight of 2026 Is a Surprise Ode to Guitar Hero
Denshattack! is such a chaotic whirlwind of absurdity that pinpointing a single standout moment feels nearly impossible. We are talking about a title where a train hitching a ride on a runaway Ferris wheel becomes just another Tuesday. However, if I had to choose one highlight to convince you of its brilliance, it would undoubtedly be the game’s surreal, high-octane musical showdown.
[Ed. note: This article contains spoilers for Denshattack!]This encounter unfolds at the climax of Chapter 7. After speeding across the Japanese Kantō region, you confront Suzuna Sei on the “Rainbow Hero” stage. Sei is a former child star whose musical aspirations stalled, leading her to trade fame for a life as the leader of a rhythm-obsessed rail gang. As the battle begins, she reveals her unique ability: using music to manipulate magnetic currents.
This power paves the way for a showstopping boss fight that feels like a love letter to Guitar Hero. You’re thrust onto a set of rails arranged like a fretboard, tasked with hitting notes as you barrel down the track. It’s essentially a rhythm game played with a skateboarding train that leaps between lines. You’ll even need to employ your signature “Akira slide” to drift sideways and nail notes that span across multiple tracks—all set to “I’m the Music,” a hair-metal-meets-hyperpop anthem that absolutely rips.
The Sei encounter is a masterpiece for two reasons. Firstly, it’s pure, unadulterated fun. It’s an unexpected homage that hits all the right notes, effectively utilizing the game’s stellar soundtrack. What’s not to love?
More importantly, it epitomizes the “true superpower” of Denshattack!. When I first heard the premise, I feared the game might be a one-trick pony. A train that can perform kickflips is a brilliant visual, but I worried the gimmick would lose its luster over an eight-hour runtime. To my surprise, the developers at Undercoders proved they had an endless supply of creative ways to evolve that hook beyond “Tony Hawk with a locomotive.” Whether it’s swinging from construction cranes or engaging in high-stakes, Mario Kart-style races, a fresh, inventive concept is introduced every few levels.

I never expected the game to pivot into a rhythm-based interlude, but it feels entirely at home within this eccentric world. It is these creative flourishes—continually recontextualizing the core skating mechanics—that elevate Denshattack! far above a mere novelty. The developers clearly poured immense effort into ensuring that the on-rails experience feels like a wild, unpredictable roller coaster, and stages like “Rainbow Hero” are a testament to that vision.
You can jump into the chaos yourself, as Denshattack! is out now for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. Rest assured, there are plenty more shocking surprises waiting for you along the tracks.
