Testing GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 With DLSS 5

NVIDIA AI-powered technology for real-time image upscaling and enhancement is officially scheduled to launch its fifth version this fall. DLSS 5 has surfaced online ahead of its official release, and users have already begun applying the software to various video games.

Players report mixed results from these early experiments. Image quality shows a significant difference, as game worlds take on the appearance of applied graphics mods and make separate downloads seem almost unnecessary. At the same time, the faces of protagonists and other characters can change beyond recognition, occasionally generating new memes in what some describe as AI slop.

DLSS 5 also impacts system performance by increasing hardware load and lowering the overall number of frames per second. Tests conducted in GTA 5 and RDR 2 clearly show this performance drop.
