Tencent Readies Horror Shooter with Demons and RPG Elements — Rules of Engagement: The Grey State

Tencent has released the first footage of its new title — Rules of Engagement: The Grey State. The game is a tactical shooter with RPG and horror elements slated for release in 2026. From the trailer and gameplay showcase, the project looks visually impressive and leans heavily into a haunting, suspenseful atmosphere.

Players will face off in PvPvE encounters where the objective is to eradicate demonic creatures that can grow to massive proportions. In the story, teams penetrate the heart of an anomaly, repel waves of enemies, and try to escape with rare artifacts. The game will be available only on PC — via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Tencent notes that Rules of Engagement: The Grey State adheres to a “fair play” philosophy rather than a “pay-to-win” model. The company states the title will be free-to-play, with monetization confined to cosmetic purchases. According to the developers, character power will depend on player skill, not spending.
