Tems and Native Instruments Unveil “72 Hours in Lagos,” Spotlighting Three Female Producers
Published:

Tems and Native Instruments have released a short documentary titled 72 Hours in Lagos, which follows three emerging female producers in Nigeria’s bustling cultural capital. The film chronicles the artists’ experiences during the inaugural Leading Vibe Initiative, a program Tems created to nurture and elevate the next generation of women in music.
The documentary profiles Saszy Afroshii, TinyBraz (also known as Purple Halo), and Gbots as they navigate Lagos’ high-energy streets and creative spaces. Native Instruments supported the initiative by offering mentorship, hands-on training, and access to professional software and hardware. Tems also serves on Native Instruments’ artist board, alongside figures such as Alicia Keys, Noah “40” Shebib, Jacob Collier and Ludwig Göransson.
Saszy Afroshii: Creating Amid the Commotion
Saszy Afroshii — who has produced for artists including Fave, Qing Madi and Tiwa Savage — says inspiration can surface amid Lagos’ relentless motion, but opportunities for women remain limited. She emphasizes the importance of women supporting one another in a field often perceived as male-dominated:
“It’s crucial for women to back each other. People still assume the producer is always a man, and you sometimes have to push harder because chances aren’t handed to you. Seeing other women succeed helps change that mindset.” — Saszy Afroshii
Tems: Self-Taught and Focused on Authenticity
In the film, Tems reflects on teaching herself production and engineering through online tutorials while studying economics at IIE MSA in Johannesburg. Learning to produce for herself, she says, helped refine her artistic identity and made her music more authentic and distinct.
Tems launched the Leading Vibe Initiative in August 2025, hosting an intensive two-day seminar that offered about 20 women practical training, industry connections and masterclasses. The program expanded to Nairobi, Kenya, in September 2025.
TinyBraz / Purple Halo: Reclaiming Creative Direction
TinyBraz — who also performs and produces as Purple Halo — describes the Leading Vibe Initiative’s focus on artistic authenticity. She recounts pressure from a previous label to adopt a more conventional, “girly” image that didn’t reflect her identity. Tems’ message about staying true to oneself prompted her to leave that situation and pursue independence.
TinyBraz also shares scenes shot at her former apartment, affectionately called “Purple Island,” a space she describes as a creative sanctuary where collaborators across dance, visual arts and production converged.
Gbots: Building a Community
Gbots — who has credits with Olamide, CKay and P. Prime — describes feeling like an outlier when she began producing. In response, she founded We Are ProducHERS in 2022, a community meant to provide women producers, songwriters and artists with a supportive, accessible environment.
The short film captures personal stories and practical moments that reveal how mentorship, training and representation can reshape career paths for women in music. Watch 72 Hours in Lagos below.
