Take-Two CEO Predicts Games Will Shift to Commercial Streaming in Three Years

Low-latency game streaming will become commercially available in three years and could expand the industry’s potential user base, according to Strauss Zelnick.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick believes that streaming will become a viable alternative to gaming hardware in just three years.

With the advent of streaming—which we truly believe is just around the corner in terms of low latency and great performance for consumers—devices that were not previously gaming devices will become gaming devices. Therefore, we see a substantial increase in the user base.
If you believe in streaming, and we really do, I’m ready to put a timeline on it. I think in three years we’ll be in commercial streaming. By commercial I mean low latency. That could increase the addressable user base by 10x.

Zelnick clarified:

That doesn’t mean our revenue will grow by 10 times. We wouldn’t predict that, because our most active consumers already have access to gaming devices.

According to him, streaming will unlock opportunities for games that appeal to a broad audience.
