Taika Waititi’s “Star Wars” Remains in Question
In a new interview, Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor) revealed that his Star Wars project has been put on hold indefinitely.
I hate to disappoint anyone, but we’ve decided to shelve this one for now and collaborate on something else… I honestly don’t know how to put it without sounding too vague. This project is deep in the freezer. I’ve got four other films I’m working on. Ice ages always end eventually… Who knows?,
— Waititi told Inverse.
The director’s involvement with the franchise first came to light in 2020. He co-wrote the script for the untitled film with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917). Other upcoming Star Wars projects include Starfighter with Ryan Gosling, Simon Kinberg’s trilogy (Episodes 10–12), Dave Filoni’s New Republic project, and more.
Waititi is releasing his adaptation of the novel Klara and the Sun, starring Jenna Ortega, in October. Critics have already panned the film, which holds a 25% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 27 out of 100 on Metacritic.
