Survey Shows What’s More Important Than Gameplay in Death Stranding 2
It has been six months since the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Players have finished the game and formed their impressions.
Japanese outlet Denfaminicogamer ran a survey to find out which aspects the audience values most — and the findings were surprising. At the top of the list was the narrative, not the gameplay mechanics.
Seventeen percent of respondents highlighted the story. They noted that while the game addresses loneliness, it also underscores the importance of human connection — which makes challenges more manageable and prevents players from slipping into despair.
The second most appreciated element was the characters (16%). Players feel the cast endures similar struggles yet remain distinct individuals.
Social features took third place, chosen by 15% of participants. The system enables subtle connections with strangers, and cooperative actions provide mutual benefits. An equal share (15%) praised the travel and traversal: expanded movement mechanics, varied environments, and the rewarding feeling of delivering cargo or discovering hot springs.
Most survey participants were over 30 — within that age bracket, 70% were men and 30% were women.
