Actress Rachel Brosnahan (“Superman”, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) will portray Desdemona in a contemporary screen adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play “Othello“, according to media reports.
British actor-director David Oyelowo (“Selma”) will both direct and headline the film. Brosnahan and Oyelowo previously appeared together in a 2016 stage production of Othello in New York.
Emilia, Desdemona’s attendant, will be played by Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”). Filming is scheduled to begin in Qatar in autumn 2026. “Othello” will also be producer Barbara Broccoli’s first project following her departure from the Bond franchise.
