Stunning First Trailer Released for New Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez Sci-Fi Movie
Universal Pictures has officially unveiled the debut trailer for Not Alone, the latest animated project from the powerhouse studio Illumination. Initially teased during the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the film features the vocal talents of Timothée Chalamet (known for Dune and Marty Supreme) and Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), who portray two rocket scientists navigating a budding interstellar romance.
Spanning nearly three minutes, this teaser offers an evocative glimpse into a story that blends cosmic adventure with intimate character development. Marking his first foray into a lead animated role, Chalamet voices Joe, a reclusive rocket mechanic, while Gomez lends her voice to Fran, an astro-botanist obsessed with engineering a plant-powered spacecraft.
The chemistry between the two leads provides a compelling emotional gravity to the narrative. According to the film’s official synopsis:
When Joe and Fran are forced to collaborate on the inaugural launch of a pioneering rocket, sparks fly instantly—though neither proves particularly skilled at the art of dating. Their complicated dynamic is further disrupted when a trio of chaotic, diminutive aliens seeks sanctuary in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly, and Shirm are fugitives fleeing the pursuit of Zandro, a hopelessly inept galactic lawman, and they believe Fran’s rocket is their only ticket back to their home world.
The mischievous alien trio is brought to life by British comedic icons Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou. They are joined by Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), who voices the bumbling Zandro, alongside an ensemble cast featuring Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris. The project is helmed by a trio of animation veterans: Eric Guillon (Despicable Me 3), Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val. Production is overseen by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri alongside executive producers Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis, and David Distenfeld.
Illumination continues its dominance in the animation landscape, building on the global success of the Minions and Despicable Me franchises. The studio also enjoyed massive success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its recent sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie—the latter of which shattered records earlier this year, currently standing as the highest-grossing film of 2026 with over $1 billion in global receipts.
Not Alone is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2027.
