Stranger Things Creator Denies Rumors About Episode Lengths, Cites Film‑Like Episodes

The fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in November 2025.

With the finale approaching, speculation about the runtime of the new episodes has picked up again. In an interview with Variety, co-creator Matt Duffer said the various reports circulating online about season five’s episode lengths are inaccurate.

Previously, unverified claims were spread suggesting each episode would run for at least two hours, with the finale stretching to three. The Duffers already pushed back on those rumors over the summer — Ross Duffer responded to the purported “leaked” runtimes tersely — “Lol, not even close.”

That said, Matt Duffer noted that some installments will indeed feel “movie-like,” specifically the fourth and eighth episodes.

The fifth season will serve as the show’s conclusion and, according to the creators, its most expansive chapter. The official synopsis explains that the characters, alarmed by the discovery of the Rifts, join forces to locate and destroy Vecna. However, the antagonist has disappeared, leaving no one certain of his whereabouts or intentions. Meanwhile, the authorities renew their efforts to track down Eleven, forcing her into hiding.

Actress Millie Bobby Brown has remarked in an interview that the season will take on more of an action-adventure tone, with every character deeply immersed in the unfolding events.

The fifth season premieres on Netflix on November 26, 2025.
