Steam users recently raised concerns after screenshots of emails sent to developers began circulating online. These messages propose buying niche titles that failed to gain traction.

The developers of Heroes of the Seven Islands, a game with a peak concurrent player count of 27, received one such offer.

Players suspect this activity serves as a precursor to attacks on the PC community. Some believe hackers are acquiring these games to distribute malware through future updates. Previous incidents involved malicious code found within the files of niche Steam titles.
