Steam Deck and Steam Machine Users Can Now Stream PlayStation Games Without a PS5

The base version of the application supports 1080p at 30 FPS, while the premium version includes 4K at 60 FPS.

A playtest for the Asobi: Remote Play application recently launched on Steam. It will allow owners of Steam Deck, Steam Machine, or other Linux-based devices to stream PlayStation games. The key feature is that a physical PlayStation console is not required for it to work.

Using this cloud gaming feature requires a PlayStation Network account and an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Users will be able to play games from the subscription catalog in the cloud, as well as eligible digital PlayStation 5 games owned in their personal libraries, though not all games can be streamed.

Sony previously introduced cloud streaming for PlayStation Portal, which allowed PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers to play certain PS5 games directly from Sony servers rather than streaming from their own PlayStation 5 console.

The Asobi: Remote Play application essentially extends this functionality to other Linux-based devices.

Asobi: Remote Play is not a project by Sony itself, as the developer is the studio Inside Internet. The studio plans to add support for the Windows operating system.

Some players fear that lawyers will notice the initiative and attempt to halt development.
