Star Citizen Developers Showcase New Mode as Players Criticize Buggy Build
The presentation definitely caught attention, but clearly not in the way the developers intended.
Studio Cloud Imperium Games recently hosted a live stream of a new mode for the space simulator Star Citizen. The Siege of Orison playtest did not go smoothly, allowing viewers to see various technical problems in the game.
The comments under the recorded Star Citizen Live broadcast reflect this, with many players discussing the technical state of the game rather than the content itself:
- @Shane5IO: “Came straight to the comments—was not disappointed.”
- @wafflesinsanity: “The devs say, ‘This is our most challenging content to date’—and then one-shot dozens of enemies who don’t shoot back and just stare into space.”
- @izraphailzero5610: “using a developer server, 30 FPS cap, only 4 players on a fresh server—and STILL DISCONNECTS. Cloud Imperium Games, what is this *****?”
Users like Lion_El_Jonsonn pointed out that the developers conducted the presentation on a test build on a private server, yet all the problems present in the live version of the game still appeared.
Honestly, [this stream] was a real revelation for me. The developers used a practically ideal private server, meaning they played in the best possible scenario with a locked frame rate—and yet the exact same bugs we encounter on live servers kept popping up: inventory delays, AI behavior glitches, weapon issues, and so on.

According to dissatisfied Star Citizen fans, it is time to stop blaming everything on weak servers, as Lion_El_Jonsonn urged the developers to fix the game code:
For a long time, the prevailing opinion was that low server performance and tick rates were ruining everything. But when even an ‘ideal’ server environment began to fail from the inside out, it became completely clear that the problem is not just server load—it is also the game code itself. Until the foundational code is sorted out, no server improvements or meshing technology will magically eliminate all these problem areas. I really hope the developers pay more attention to refactoring basic systems instead of just blaming everything on the servers.
