Spider-Man: A New Day Grosses $1.67 Billion in 12 Days as Analysts Expect Record

Analysts are already discussing the chances of the new Spider-Man movie reaching $3 billion.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed over $1.67 billion in just 12 days of worldwide release. According to preliminary data from Variety, North America accounted for $655 million, while international markets brought in just over $1 billion. Final results for the second weekend will be known tomorrow.

In North America, the film earned another $145 million during its second weekend, marking the third-best result in history. Only eight films have ever managed to gross more than $100 million in their second weekend. The only films to earn more are Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $149 million and Avengers: Endgame with $147 million. However, just as with the opening weekend, Brand New Day could still break the record after final calculations are made.

Analysts are now tracking whether Brand New Day can set another record. At its current trajectory, the film could become the first movie to earn over $1 billion in North America alone. The record is currently held by The Force Awakens with $936.6 million.

The main intrigue now centers on the final box office total. Analysts have no doubt that the film will gross more than $2 billion, with cautious projections pointing to around $2.5 billion, while optimistic forecasts do not rule out $3 billion. No film has ever crossed this threshold before: Avatar earned about $2.9 billion, and Avengers: Endgame earned around $2.8 billion including re-releases. Therefore, if Spider-Man reaches the $3 billion mark, it will set a new all-time record.
