Sony Interactive Entertainment is getting critical about turning its common IPs into TV exhibits, and movies.
The firm established PlayStation Productions, a brand new division devoted to discovering methods to adapt Sony’s expansive portfolio of games for movie, and TV.
Shawn Layden, chairman of Worldwide Studios, is overseeing the manufacturing firm, which is headed up by Asad Qizilbash. THR studies that PlayStation Productions, primarily based in Culver City, has already began engaged on its first few tasks.
Sony clearly has its personal movie studios, and the corporate hopes the brand new division will make use of experience on each ends. PlayStation Productions will produce, leaving Sony Pictures to distribute.
“For the last year and half, two years, we’ve spent time trying to understand the industry, talking to writers, directors, producers,” stated Qizilbash. “We talked to [film producer] Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Kevin Feige to really get an understanding of the industry.”
Layden stated the group has been learning what Marvel did in turning comedian books into the largest cinematic occasions in historical past. “It would be a lofty goal to say we’re following in their footsteps, but certainly we’re taking inspiration from that,” stated Layden.
“We’ve got 25 years of game development experience and that’s created 25 years of great games, franchises and stories. We feel that now is a good time to look at other media opportunities across streaming or film or television to give our worlds life in another spectrum,” added Layden.
Though the reveal doesn’t drop any franchise names, Qizilbash says the choice to adapt an IP right into a TV present or a function movie will rely on the sequence, noting that it must “stand up as a great movie or TV show.”
This has been a ardour undertaking for Layden, as he admits, hoping these tasks will tide followers over as they wait for brand spanking new games and sequels in present franchises.
