Sony Seeks New Monetization Methods With Potential PlayStation Ecosystem Ads
As players increasingly criticize PlayStation’s decision to phase out disc-based games, it appears Sony has other controversial plans in the works.
New job openings at the company indicate that Sony wants to expand the PlayStation ecosystem to include non-gaming advertising. The company is searching for a client partner director to establish relationships with major brands and sell advertising opportunities within the platform.
This might go beyond in-game advertising. Sony is considering brand partnerships, placements in the PlayStation Store, promotions for PS Plus subscribers, and other advertising formats.

Non-gaming brands have drawn particular attention. This means Sony could partner with companies like Coca-Cola or McDonald’s.
A similar experiment took place in 2008 when ads appeared in WipEout HD on the PS3, but the company quickly removed them following a negative player reaction.
Sony is currently looking for new revenue sources as the company raises PS Plus prices, relies heavily on digital sales, and gradually moves away from physical media.
