Sony Readies PS6 for Launch; Production to Begin in First Half of 2027 — Rumor

Sony appears to be preparing a new console. According to recent reports, production of the PlayStation 6 will begin sooner than many gamers expected.

Although the PlayStation 5 remains relevant, speculation about its successor is growing louder. Reports indicate the PS6 could launch in late 2027 or in 2028, which aligns with forecasts from analysts and industry insiders.

Fresh details were shared by YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead. He claims to possess documents that indicate PS6 production will commence in early 2027. If those documents are authentic, Sony has settled on a schedule — beginning assembly in the first half of the year would allow the console to ship within a few months.

Earlier, PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny said in an interview about the “Amethyst” project that the new console’s technologies were still in the simulation phase. At that time, a release no earlier than 2028 was expected. However, leaks suggest development may be advancing more quickly and that Sony has moved into the next phase.

If these rumors are confirmed, the company would maintain its customary seven-year cycle between generations — the same gap that separated the PS4 and PS5. That implies the first official announcements about PlayStation 6 could arrive in 2026, with the console reaching the market in 2027 and ushering in a new era.
