Sony Lawyers Target Hacked PS5 Consoles as Unofficial Game Store Shuts Down
Users of jailbroken PS5 consoles have lost one of their main sources of pirated games as Overdrive, an unofficial catalog for downloading copies that bypasses the PlayStation Store, has stopped working.
Sony has likely begun cracking down on unofficial tools used to run games on jailbroken PS5 consoles, as the Overdrive store has stopped working and its GitHub page has disappeared or become unavailable.
Overdrive allowed owners of modified consoles to search for and download games while bypassing the PlayStation Store. Oliver Darko reported the closure of the project on social media. It is possible that Sony Interactive Entertainment issued a cease-and-desist demand to the creators.
The store offered unofficial copies of commercial games, and its authors were considering hosting files on their own servers. This could have increased the risk of legal action.

In late September, the Relapse exploit made it possible to jailbreak consoles running firmware up to version 13.60 inclusive. Sony is responding to such developments with updates: versions 14.00.00 and 14.10.00, released on September 16 and October 1 respectively, patched some of the known vulnerabilities.
The situation is also linked to GTA VI. According to unconfirmed reports, the game may require PS5 firmware version 14.10.00, which would prevent it from running on certain jailbroken consoles.
