Sony Brings Back PS5 Lottery System Amid PS5 Pro Shortages

Sony has launched a lottery system in Japan giving players the right to purchase a PS5 Pro amid ongoing availability issues. Participation is open to PlayStation Network account holders who have logged at least 60 hours of gameplay over the past two years.

PS5 Pro shortages are impacting an increasing number of markets. Available units sell out quickly and then reappear at even higher prices from scalpers.

The issue has now reached Japan, where Sony decided to use a lottery system familiar from the shortage period of the standard PS5. Entering the lottery does not guarantee a purchase, as only randomly selected users will receive the opportunity to order the console.

Sony has also set an additional requirement. Participants must be PlayStation Network account holders who have spent at least 60 hours playing games over the past two years. The company is trying to direct the limited supply of consoles to active users while simultaneously hindering the work of scalpers.
