Artist Pushes Back

Sombr has spoken out after a TikTok creator’s critical clip about his live show climbed the viral ladder.

In a TikTok labeled “rant,” the 20‑year‑old singer-songwriter addressed a 25‑year‑old concertgoer who called his performance “vulgar,” described his stage manner as “cringe,” and criticized his singing and dancing. The creator—who said she attended the show as a previous fan—noted she wouldn’t recommend tickets to anyone “over the age of 16,” even likening Sombr’s stage persona to “Slenderman.” (Watch the clip on TikTok.)

Responding in a video of his own, Sombr said he’d noticed the online commotion and emphasized perspective. “I totally respect people having opinions, but I’m freshly 20 years old,” he told followers. He added that a 25‑year‑old expecting an audience made up solely of adults—when Sombr himself is five years younger—is “a skill issue,” and hardly grounds for derision.

Sombr also pushed back against the “Slenderman” comparison, calling it part of “a massive body‑shaming hate train.” He stressed that his shows are open to everyone and urged critics to pick more meaningful targets. “I’m just existing,” he said, defending his right to perform and connect with a youthful fanbase.

While his live act may not suit every taste, Sombr’s popularity is rising quickly. After breaking through with the single “Back to Friends,” he took the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters chart. Earlier in October it was announced he will make his debut as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live later this fall.
