Sofia D’Angelo’s “Time” Reigns Supreme in Latest Fan Poll
Pop songstress Sofia D’Angelo has claimed the top spot in this week’s fan-driven music survey with her evocative new single, “Time.”
Listeners participated in the Billboard poll launched last Friday, April 3, ultimately crowning D’Angelo’s latest solo venture—a project outside of her collective, MICHELLE—as their favorite debut of the week.
The track “Time” successfully outpaced a diverse field of high-profile releases, including new music from Arlo Parks, flowerovlove, and Anne Hathaway. It even surged past Jack White’s latest offering, which arrived just as he took the stage as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. By the time the poll concluded on Sunday night, D’Angelo had secured a commanding victory with over 69% of the total vote.
A seasoned performer and New York native, D’Angelo paired the single’s release with a visually striking, nostalgia-heavy music video. Set within a bar in Bushwick, the video features a prosthetic-aged version of the artist, illustrating that while the years may pass, her vibrant spirit remains unchanged.
“Every seven years or so, even Grandma needs a good time,” she quips during the visual, which was directed by Steph Rinzler. D’Angelo served as the executive producer for the project, supported by producer Anahita von Andrian-Werburg and associate producer Natalie Williams.
The song’s lyrics reflect on the fleeting nature of youth: “Just gotta work with what you got / At the end of everything / Will I remember 23? / If I survive I’ll know / If time was on my side.”
Following “Time” in the rankings was Anne Hathaway’s “My Mouth Is Lonely for You,” taken from her upcoming film Mother Mary, which garnered 16% of the vote. Jack White’s surprise release, “G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs,” rounded out the top three with 4%.
