“Social Reckoning” Flops at the US Box Office

The horror flick “Other Mommy” claimed the top spot at the North American box office, though its commercial success has been overshadowed by a wave of critical backlash. Preliminary figures indicate that the Universal and Blumhouse production pulled in approximately $28 million during its opening weekend against a $19 million budget. Despite these returns, the film has struggled to find favor with audiences, currently sitting at a meager 20% critical approval rating and a 47% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Things fared significantly worse for “Social Reckoning,” the long-awaited successor to Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Network.” The film managed only $6 million in its debut, falling drastically short of the original’s impressive $22.4 million opening back in 2010. Given its estimated production budget of $30 million, the film’s lackluster start is a substantial disappointment.

The narrative centers on an investigative exposé by Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz. The cast features Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, and Jeremy Strong.
