Skellington bothering co-op shooter Strange Brigade is out now

Absolutely everything in this shot is exploding, except the skeleton pirate.

Ah, the undead. Nobody likes them, actually. Not even the vampires – far too pretentious. Those wanting a recent alternative to place the strolling lifeless firmly again of their graves could also be properly served by Strange Brigade – Rebellion’s 1930s pulp adventure-themed squad shooter, which is out now.

Designed for 4 participant co-op (although playable solo), gamers management a globe-trotting band of magic-wielding, gun-toting adventurers who concentrate on looting forgotten tombs and placing grumpy previous pharaohs again to mattress.  Below, a plummily narrated launch trailer. Tally ho, and all that!

Old journey serial aesthetic apart, Strange Brigade a reasonably easy third-person shooter, very comparable in fashion to Rebellion’s gratifying Zombie Army Trilogy. Unlike the Sniper Elite spinoff, Strange Brigade is a little more centered on shut fight, with particular powers and interactive traps offering alternative routes to clear huge swarms of monsters. There’s a little bit extra to it than simply operating and gunning. There are easy some puzzles to unravel as properly. Some are necessary for development whereas others are non-obligatory, rewarding the celebration with further loot and particular weaponry.

After watching a few of it streamed right this moment, I can affirm common boss fights in opposition to bigger undead beasties and the occasional minotaur-like determine. From what I’ve seen they’re largely of the ‘shoot the glowing weak point’ selection with little depth or subtlety past clearing the extra wave of minions. While I admit I’d like some extra depth, if boss fights are too taxing they’ll actually drag a co-op game like this down.

I additionally hope on your sake that you simply benefit from the narration within the trailer, as he’s all around the game too. He’ll be calling out mission goals and frequently rambling over the motion. The narrator applauds last-minute dodges, notably good pictures and the occasional kill-streak with a cry of “King George’s beard!”. Completely daft, however surprisingly likeable.

Strange Brigade is out now on Steam and Humble for £40/€50/$50, or £65/€80/$80 for the Deluxe version with the season go. Anyone who buys the game inside its first month will get a fifth playable character – Winston Bey, Gentleman Explorer – as a bonus.
