Sherlock Star Secretly Marries After Six Years of Dating
Martin Freeman, who starred in Sherlock and Fargo, has quietly married French screenwriter and producer Rachel Benaissa. A representative for the actor confirmed the news to People. According to a source, the couple wed in early 2026 but chose not to announce the ceremony publicly.
The change in Freeman’s personal life came to light when the couple appeared together at the London Film Festival on October 14. The actor arrived at the premiere of his new drama The Long Winter wearing a gold wedding band, and Benaissa also showed off a ring on her ring finger. She had previously been spotted wearing it at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
Freeman and Benaissa have been together since around 2020 and prefer to keep their private life out of the spotlight. Their bond goes beyond romance, too: together they founded the independent production company One Trick Poné, which develops film and television projects.
Before his relationship with Benaissa, the actor spent 16 years with actress Amanda Abbington, his Sherlock co-star.
