Serious Sam: Shatterverse Scheduled for August Release
The game will launch on PC and consoles.
Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Behaviour Interactive have announced the release date for Serious Sam: Shatterverse, a new multiplayer first-person shooter set in the Serious Sam universe. The game will be available on August 31 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Serious Sam: Shatterverse takes place in a multiverse where boundaries between realities have broken down due to the actions of Ura-Mental. As a result, multiple versions of Sam Stone from different dimensions must team up to restore order and stop the villain, who has already managed to defeat the hero across numerous alternate timelines.
Players will join the Serious Program organization, which opposes Mental across various universes. Along the way, players must defeat five powerful lieutenants of the main antagonist, with each serving as a distinct boss.
The developers promise the series’ signature fast-paced gameplay featuring massive hordes of enemies, while adding roguelike elements. After each failed attempt, players will be able to unlock new upgrades, strengthen their character, and experiment with various modifiers that alter run conditions.
The arsenal will combine iconic weapons from previous Serious Sam entries with entirely brand-new armaments. In addition, the game will feature anomalies, hidden portals, and high-risk events that can either significantly buff the hero or instantly end a run.
Familiar monsters will return alongside new creatures under Mental’s control. All battles will take place in handcrafted arenas, while the structure of each playthrough will shift through procedural generation.
