Not only major franchises receive screen adaptations. A new limited series based on the boss‑rush action game from French indie studio The Game Bakers is coming soon.
Production company Midnight Embers has unveiled the first teaser for the screen adaptation of Furi, the combat action game by The Game Bakers.
The lead role is played by Barty Sheperd, who also serves as the project’s writer and showrunner. Sheperd is seldom seen on film and is better known for his work at the Royal Opera House in London, where he specialized in stage combat. The series leans into choreographed fights, which fits the source material—a game made up almost entirely of boss encounters.
Joining him are Yannick Ganti (Voice), James Answorth (Chain and Hand), Julian London (Line), Olivia Yannesson (Song), Ermar Alexander (Line), Fabio Miale (Edge), Tamaira Hesson (Rhythm), and Charlie Griffiths (Star). The full cast list is provided by Superhero Hype, though the published lineup may contain inaccuracies: the boss Line appears twice, while the performers playing Scale, Belt, and Burst are not listed.
The original game launched on Steam in July 2016 and holds a 90% positive rating from more than 10,000 user reviews. Furi is also available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
The series’ creators emphasize that the project was developed in close collaboration with the original developers to preserve the spirit of the source material. The plot follows the Silent Warrior in a red cloak, who is freed from an interdimensional prison by a mysterious companion wearing a rabbit mask. The hero sets out to confront his jailers and find a way back to the outside world.
The limited series is scheduled to premiere on November 8.
