Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has reaffirmed her ambition to portray a lead antagonist in the upcoming James Bond installment.

Ronan first voiced her interest in playing a Bond villain back in 2020, and it appears her desire to take on such a role remains undiminished.

“I want some grit. I mentioned wanting to play a Bond villain, and I was being entirely serious,” Ronan told Empire. “I think it would be fascinating to portray a young female antagonist. It would be particularly empowering for women and girls to see someone channel all that pent-up rage into something productive. There’s a dramatic intensity to that. So, I would love to be part of something like that,” she explained.

Meanwhile, rumors have circulated suggesting that Ronan’s husband, Slow Horses star Jack Lowden, is a potential candidate to inherit the role of 007, though these claims remain unconfirmed. Producers of the new film have pledged to announce the identity of the next Bond by the end of the year.

The 26th film in the franchise is reportedly being helmed by Dune director Denis Villeneuve. Ronan is set to appear in the black comedy Bad Apples this year and will also make her directorial debut with the short film Paper Plane, which is slated to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September.
