Sam Raimi, the visionary filmmaker behind The Evil Dead and Spider-Man, has officially signed on to helm a contemporary reimagining of Richard Attenborough’s 1978 cult horror classic, Magic.
Initial reports regarding Raimi’s interest in the project surfaced in 2022. This new adaptation will be produced by Lionsgate and is set to bring the chilling narrative into the modern era.
The original film, adapted from William Goldman’s novel, centered on a troubled ventriloquist played by Anthony Hopkins, whose sinister dummy gradually exerts a malevolent influence over his life, leading to harrowing consequences.
Roy Lee (Barbarian) is attached to produce, while the screenplay is being penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who previously collaborated with Raimi on the thriller Don’t Move. Casting details and a release date have yet to be announced.
