Sam Asghari Says Britney Spears Will ‘Absolutely’ Be on Stage Again … Maybe

It’s been three years and counting since Britney Spears last toured. And as the singer focuses on extricating herself from the 13-year conservatorship that has kept her personal and professional life in a tightly controlled lane, longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari teased that she will definitely, maybe be back on stage again soon.

In an Instagram story video in June, Spears answered some fan questions, including whether she’d be up for playing live in the future. Brit’s answer? “I have no idea. I’m having fun right now, I’m in a transition in my life and I’m enjoying myself.” And while that seemed pretty definitive, Ashghari opened the door a bit when a paparazzo caught up with the personal trainer and actor after a workout in Los Angeles.

In the video obtained by TMZ, when the pap asked Asghari whether Spears’ fans “will be able to see her back on stage soon,” his response was that she would “absolutely” perform live again, then quickly followed that up with a mumbled “hopefully,” splashing cold water on a phrase that ratcheted up some hope that the singer might be back on the road at some point in the future.

Billboard has reached out to Spears for comment.

With estranged father Jamie Spears slated to step down from his role as her conservator soon and Spears appearing to take on more control of her affairs following a series of court dates, it does seem like the road is being paved for the pop princess to hit us one more time.

In November, Spears’ longtime court-appointed counsel — who recently stepped down as well — said during a hearing that the star “will not perform again”. In addition to not touring and canceling her planned Las Vegas Domination residency in early 2019, Spears has been on an indefinite work hiatus for two years.
