Rumor or Clickbait: Has GTA 6 Been Delayed to 2026?

Today, the first message, albeit unofficial, has appeared about postponing GTA 6 to early-mid 2026. The PC version is purportedly set to release another year to a year and a half after that. This information, attributed to “several developers from two studios,” has already spread across various sources, but let’s apply some critical thinking.

Rumor or Clickbait: Has GTA 6 Been Delayed to 2026?

It’s worth starting with the fact that the source is not an insider. If someone like Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, who has a huge amount of credibility, had presented something similar or at least confirmed this rumor, it would be a different matter.

Currently, the game is officially slated for next fall, as per the latest news, but our regular readers might recall that we have repeatedly expressed skepticism about the announced release date, often pointing to the likelihood of a delay to 2026. This reasoning is grounded in common sense and the understanding that such delays are normal for Rockstar Games.

A later PC launch is also expected. Considering the time it takes for exclusive console rights to expire and for ‘GTA 6’ to be optimized for PCs, a year to a year and a half timeline is entirely plausible. This was the case with RDR 2 and GTA 5, Rockstar’s last projects.

Several developers who’ve signed non-disclosure agreements, and from two studios of a company known as the most secretive in the gaming industry?

We do not outright dismiss the possibility that all this information might turn out to be true; in fact, we agree that events are likely to unfold in this manner. The only part we question is the term “exclusive” at the start of the statement—it seems more like a lucky guess.
