Viken Motorsport—better known as Rockstar Racing, a squad comprised largely of Rockstar Games staff—has clarified their absence from this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours. Despite their historic victory at the iconic endurance event back in 2022, the team opted to sit this season out, citing two primary factors for their decision.
The foremost reason involves a major software release slated for November. While the team refrained from naming the project directly, it is clear they are referring to the highly anticipated GTA 6. Furthermore, team members expressed an ambition to upgrade from their aging 20-year-old BMW 325i to a more competitive machine next year, provided that the upcoming game is well-received.
This follows a social media update from two months ago, which highlighted how the developers were balancing intensive work on their race car alongside “a certain game.” While not an official announcement, it serves as another compelling indicator that development remains on track without further delays.
The second factor behind their decision was the passing of their dear friend, Juha. The team chose not to disclose specific details regarding his involvement with the group, out of respect for his memory.
Despite these challenges, the team did not abandon the spirit of the event, choosing to attend the Nürburgring weekend as spectators to support their peers.
