Robert Duvall, Who Played Tom Hagen in The Godfather, Has Passed Away
On February 15, the cinematic world lost a true titan as Robert Duvall passed away at his Virginia estate at the age of 95. An Academy Award-winning performer of unparalleled range, Duvall’s illustrious career spanned over 80 feature films, including unforgettable turns in Apocalypse Now, Tender Mercies, Days of Thunder, and The Judge.
Perhaps his most enduring legacy remains the portrayal of Tom Hagen, the understated yet pivotal consigliere in The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. Although a salary dispute regarding pay equity with Al Pacino famously prevented his involvement in the trilogy’s conclusion, Duvall eventually returned to the Corleone family in the mid-2000s. He reprised his iconic role by providing both his voice and likeness for The Godfather video game adaptations.
